Project Island

In class, we went to birdsong island and we had to write about it. I didn't go but I heard it was better than alright. I made a video on canvas about Pests and how to train your dog not to kill birds such as our main bird the Kiwi. I did what I could as I did not have much time. Sorry mine can not go on the blog but I had shown the class my presentation. They said it was really good.

In class, we are trying to persuade our family to let me go to Survivor 2022.

I have learnt what a counter-argument is. My reflection is to re-read my work and make my sentences sensible. So the reader can understand it. I have used a lot of figurative and new sentence types in my persuasive writing.

Here is what I have written to convince a reader:

Have you ever participated in the challenger - Survival night? This week we are doing Survivor 2022 at Waima Forest. I think I should go to survival night. Year 5 - 6s are doing survival night, safely on school property with all materials supplied. This is so they are prepared for the Survivor, which is when the 7 - 8s go do theirs in the wild bush, with nothing but a tarpaulin and hot water and hot water.

The reason I think I should go to Survivor 2022 is that it will be a good learning opportunity to learn new survival skills. If you don't let me go I will miss out on how to make food by myself with nature. On these days, we are going to be doing lots of bush safety and rules around the bush. So now if I go I won't burn down our backyard… Again. So that will be a great learning improvement. And yes, we will be doing more active learning instead of sitting in a seat 5 hours a day. When I say active learning I don't just mean sports hard-even though I would love to- we will be monitoring birds, such as the Saddleback that I have never seen before. That will definitely make me stop talking too much cause we will have to be silent. There's another big learning improvement. Won't you love it if I stop talking and irritating your morning and afternoon? I know you will. Plus if I get to go I will learn how to make a tent using Waima Forest's resources- NO teachers or Parents will be helping me and my group. It will be a magical experience to look at the stars. And just for extra information, I will be learning about hut etiquette. A hut etiquette is rules like taking your shoes off at the front doorstep or putting the mattress up against the wall when finished with them. Obviously. Because there is a D.O.C hunt there -Framtons hut- which has a toilet and it's a sturdy house so if the wind screamed through the forest I can go into the D.O.C hut. So please can I go? Survivor 2022 is going to be such a great learning opportunity. Please.

Another reason why I should be going is, because the days we will be at Waima Forest will be amusing and exciting. It could be a tremendous experience. We will be going to a water hole in the wildlife. Going swimming and the boys doing manu’s that will explode like a grenade. If you don't agree with me you will be robbing my memories with new people-like new kids-I will get to bond with. We will be having delicious, appetizing marshmallow smores. Can you just imagine how devastating it will be if  I miss out on my first-ever smore I have ever had? It's better now than never. If you think I will get fat from this, we are doing a 2-hour hike. Twice. As well as that we will be achieving crazy, new activities, like the brand new Sir Challenge-this will include a mystery food challenge - that will make me step out of my comfort zone! Also, if I get food poisoning, three of the supervisors are fully medically trained. The more challenges I do, the braver I get! Everybody should know you have to play spotlight when camping with heaps of friends or family. “I did think it was fun. The experience was very enjoyable. I really liked the hike.” Said Zoe It would be sad for me if I don't miss out on this opportunity. It will be so miserable at home. Bored, lonely, isolated- do you want this to happen to me? So, please strongly agree this is a good opportunity.

I would like to go to Survivor 2022. It will be like hiking up our local mountain. It will be an entertaining, awsome day. It will be a great learning opportunity to learn brand new skills. Also It will be amusing and exciting for me. Plus, it's going to make me step out of my personal bubble and go spend time out in the safe bush. So can I go to Survivor 2022? Please!

The Classification Of Animals

In class, we have been learning about The Classification Of Animals. We did a revision on where they come from (their lineage), Invertebrate or Vertebrate, and what they look like. It sounds boring, but it's not really. Here is my revision of The Classification Of Animals! (Also have a great holiday)

The Three Servants!!!!

We are created in God's image. This means I have God-given creativity and talents. This week we read a parable of the three servants.

The parable was about a master who was leaving his house to travel, and, before leaving, he entrusted his property to his servants. According to each man's abilities, one servant received five talents, the second received two, and the third received only one. when he came home he asked his servants to return his talents. the first and second returned with twice they had. The third returned with the same amount because he was too lazy to make more profit.

Something that it taught me was to use and develop our gifts (e.g sports, singing) from God for him. There are eight types of gifts- the top two gifts the class say I am most good at are logical-mathematical intelligence and Spatial intelligence. The two I think I'm good at are logical-mathematical intelligence and naturalistic intelligence.

I can apply this to my learning, sports, and my lifestyle.

Powerful learner

This week we have set goals to work towards. These  are the goals I set in my classroom

Doubling And Halving

In class, we learned a new strategy called Doubling and Halving hji

When you do this strategy you look at the .............x......... then you have to halve the one that is gonna make it easier and the other you double.

.5 x 16-

a) I could double .5 and halve 16 = 1 x 8=8

b) OR could halve .5 and double 16 =.25 x 32= 8

The easier way is A because it is more accessible during times

6 x 3.5

a) double 3.5 and halve 6= 7 x 3= 21

b) double 6 and halve 3.5= 12x 1.75=21

The easier way is A because  it makes it easier to times

LIMERICKS!

In class, I learned about limerick poems.

They are a humorous five-lined poems with a rhyme scheme: AABBA.

Here is an example of a couple. (I wrote independently OR I wrote in my table group)

 Mr Prickett

  • I once met a teacher from my school

He was kind of a cool

His name was David Prickett

I always called him Mr Crickett

That was the teacher from my school

Zoe

  • I know a young, intelligent girl called Zoe

She had a nasty friend called Chole

But they got in a fight

        Sadly, They didn't reunite

That was the girl called Zoe

One from the internet but changed-
  • There once was a young, beautiful girl in a tower

Who smelled like a lavender flower

Her hair was like silk

Her skin smooth as milk

That was the beautiful girl from the tower

Here is an example poem we look at in class…

Apostle Paul

I once was a man named Saul.

I thought I knew it all.

I persecuted the church.

I went to Damascus to search.

Where Jesus transformed me into Paul.

I had lost my sight

All I could see was night.

I heard Jesus’s voice.

I made Him my choice.

Praise the Lord, I saw the Light.

What Is Figurative And Literal Language?

Our focus is on the difference between figurative and literal language and how we use it. I find the literal language easier to see and figurative language easier to understand. The difference between figurative and literal is the literal is exactly what it says and figurative is making your words creative. I am strong at Figurative language and a little weak at literal language.

Mean/Average; Ordering Fractions

In our classroom, we have just learnt how to find out how to find the average-middle, centre, and medium. The task set for us was to answer up to 15 or fewer questions to find the average/mean. One thing really enjoyable for me was adding all the numbers together. One thing hard about this task was if there were heaps of numbers sets and hard numbers in the number set.
Here is what I did on my GOOGLE SLIDE

Fraction Action With Anahera

In class, we have been learning about fractions [adding, dividing, ordering, etc] in term1 and 2. Our main task was to make/copy a mathematical GOOGLE DRAW. This included questions, ordering fractions, and how we did it/thinking. In mine, I decided to add a little more.
Here is my GOOGLE DRAW and I hope you like it:

Outdoor Science

In class, we went on a science trip to test the velocity of the Waitangi River. Our task was to make a line graph or bar graph to show the time and trials. We also did the average time; typical and middle.
Here is my google draw:

Jonahs Arrogants

This morning for devotions we were studying the bible; the book of Jonah. We were looking at Jonah's reaction to God's forgiveness and what attitudes did Jonah have that stopped him from
accepting God forgiving the Ninevites.

WALT uses to study the bible to gain an understanding that we all need  God's help, mercy, and love, and we are all called to forgive others.

The Bible records many stories about "forgiving". The Lord Jesus also taught us this: when we forgive men when they sin against us, our heavenly father will also forgive us. However, it's hard to forgive from our hearts. With God’s help, you can forgive.

Your assignment is to research "forgiving", in the bible and share what you learned. You will need to use reference material such as biblegateway.com or search engines to locate stories of forgiveness in the Bible.

Begin by brainstorming possible topics and bible references

Create your own framework to record bible references you will read, key events within it, and your thoughts. In week 8 you will use this to write what you learned from the bible about forgiveness.

How did I go ⚫   ✅    ✅    ✅✅✅

My self-assessment

I can use reference material to locate starting points (bible stories) relevant to forgiveness

✅✅✅

I can create a framework to record my key ideas and notes

✅✅

I can read the bible independently

✅✅✅

I can use my notes to write about what I learned about forgiveness

✅✅

Teacher comment

Anaherea is gaining confidence to create her own frameworks and take notes relevant to her questions. She reads independently and uses biblegateway and google as a good starting point.

Knowledge of Text Features; River Knowledge

Our topic is water and science. We have been learning to use different text features like sub-heading, titles, etc. Using these will help me find the right place and key ideas. My task was to skim-read three different stories. LAWA websiteTalking To The River and Testing the Water are the sites we had to read. we had to choose which site fits the questions.
Something I was good at was finding key ideas.

Also, doing research on what scientists do to help the environment/Rivers.
Here is what I did:

Figure Of Speech Quiz; By Anahera

This term I did a quiz to test your knowledge of Figurative language. Our task was to make a quiz with a partner (I was an independent person).  We had to add different types of figures of speech like Metaphor, Idiom, and more.

The main object of learning for S2 is to add figurative language to our writing that is why we have done a quiz to test our knowledge. We have been also been doing show not tell.

Some things I enjoyed doing are: thinking of some question/statement for you to do and changing/choosing the background (I do not have much on mine)

Here is the quiz:
